THERE is a last chance to catch Santa doing his rounds tonight in Hillingdon, thanks to committed volunteers from the Rotary Club of Elthorne Hillingdon.

Determined not to disappoint his loyal friends in Ickenham, Santa was not put off by the ice and snow on Friday.

However, on Monday, when conditions took a turn for the worst, the club were unable to get the float full of presents onto the roads.

John Greening, president of the Rotary Club, said: "Santa and his intrepid band of friends from the Rotary Club of Elthorne Hillingdon picked their way carefully round the, many untreated, Hillingdon Council please note, roads to the north of Swakeleys Road on Friday evening, having been in the area around Ickenham station in what became the semi-blizzard conditions on Thursday.

"Because of the very poor weather conditions on Monday we were unable to get Santa's float out of its garage. The club regrets letting down all the Hillingdon folks in Snowden Avenue, Oakdene Rd., Brampton Rd., The Larches, The Dingle, Weald Rd., Gresham Rd., Harvey Rd., Misbourne Rd. and Glisson Rd."

Raising funds for local charities, principally the Harefield Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal, the club aims to be out again tonight in North Hillingdon.

If you’d like to join them in this invigorating walk in future years, contact Joan Greening on 01923 829657 or visit the club’s website at www.hillingdonrotary.org.uk where a contact form can be found.
