The Rotary Club of Heston and Isleworth has pledged its support to a food bank helping Hounslow's poorest citizens.

The association of business people and professionals yesterday (Tuesday, August 19) handed over its first box of consumables to Hounslow Community FoodBox.

The donation followed a talk to Rotarians by Oonah Lacey, of Hounslow Community FoodBox, and Hounslow mayor Corinna Smart , who has nominated the food bank as one of her charities of the year.

Club president Jeff O'Leary, who presented the box of goods donated by members, said: "Rotary has a 100 years-plus history of helping people globally from all backgrounds in all sorts of emergency situations, from flood relief to eradicating polio amongst children.

"The Rotary Club of Heston and Isleworth has a long, proud record of community action and support, so giving Hounslow Community Food Box a helping hand to meet its objectives is at the heart of our beliefs and goals."

The group plans to provide more support in future to the food bank, which was set up last year using a grant from Hounslow Council and is one of several operating in the borough.
