Gangster glamour enthusiasts will make their way to Chiswick Auction House next week to try and claim a piece of Ronnie and Reggie Kray's gruesome history.

The auction house has been chosen to host the sale of over 100 items belonging to the notorious East London murderers, Ronnie and Reggie Kray, next Monday.

The collection, which includes jewellery, letters, photos and clothing, was built up during their years spent at Her Majesty's Pleasure. Following their deaths the belongings were handed over to a friend, who is now selling the loot.

Auctioneer Matthew Caddick said: "This is what we describe as an 'estimateless sale', they happen very rarely, where you can't put an estimated price on the objects.

"You just can't say how much each item is worth as it's basically how much someone is willing to pay for an item once owned by a Kray."

Items going under the hammer include numerous pairs of Ronnie's trademark Ray-Ban sunglasses, unpublished pictures from Reggie's 1965 wedding, suits worn by the pair and a diamond encrusted 9ct gold ring emblazoned with the name 'Ron'.

One of the more controversial items is a painting of Jesus on the cross with blood pouring from his mouth, signed 'God Bless You, From Reg' Kray'.

The painting is being sold by the wife of a security officer who worked in the maximum security wing at Parkhurst Prison, in the Isle of Wight, who received the painting as a gift from the twins after he spoke up for them following a fight with another inmate.

What may surprise many is that, although the ex-boxers were larger than life personalities who instilled fear in everyone who crossed them, they were actually very small in stature.

Rings once worn by Ronnie are a snug fit, even for a woman, and, at just 5ft 7ins, the suits would only fit the most compact of men.

"We have had so much interest from people all over London, the phone hasn't stopped ringing," said Mr Caddick. "Those that have been interested include people from their past who wrote them letters while they were in prison. To people who just have a real fascination with gangster glamour, who enjoyed the film and books. I guess they are known as plastic gangsters."

The auction starts at 6pm on Monday at Chiswick Auction House in 1 Colville Road. Viewings are on: Sunday between noon and 6pm and Monday between 10am and 6pm.
