A Roman style bridge in Osterley is among 25 historic sites across Hounslow in danger of being lost for good, according to English Heritage's latest At Risk Register.

The Grand Union Canal in Brentford and the old armoury at Hounslow Cavalry also make the annual list of decaying buildings, which was published today.

As usual the list is dominated by the crumbling gothic structures of Gunnersbury Park, including the imposing Large Mansion, which make up nearly half the borough's entries.

Those are due to be saved after Ealing and Hounslow councils, which jointly manage the park, secured £8.8 million in Heritage Lottery Grants, on top of money they plan to spend themselves restoring its grounds and buildings.

But the outlook is not so rosy for many of the borough's buildings, including its one new entry, St Paul's Church, in Bath Road, Hounslow West.

St Paul's Church, in Hounslow West, is included in English Heritage's At Risk Register of buildings in danger of decay

The spire of the 19th century church is slowly decaying and the weather vane has had to be removed, along with one of the gargoyles, for safety reasons.

However, Reverend Libby Etherington said the church had applied to English Heritage for Lottery funding and hoped to learn its fate soon.

The historic stables and cellars in Cranford Park also make the list, with the grade II-listed stables included in the top priority category A structures.

Bob Barton, chairman of Cranford Park Friends, which is working with Hillingdon Council to prepare a Lottery funding bid, described their inclusion as a 'wake up call'.

Other than those in Gunnersbury Park, the sites and structures within Hounslow included in this year's list are:

Roman bridge, Jersey Road, Osterley Park - immediate risk

This Roman-style bridge built in 1780 is severed from the historic park by the M4. The grade II-listed structure is described as being in 'very bad' condition, not helped by occasional vandalism

Repairs to this 17th century grade I-listed house are nearly complete, but English Heritage is in talks over its future use and funding to ensure it is preserved for future generations

Talks appear to be at a standstill between the owners and Hounslow Council over the restoration of this fire-damaged grade II-listed 15th century house

Kew Bridge Railway Station, Kew Bridge Road, Brentford - under repair or in fair to good repair

The 1850 building is largely unoccupied and boarded up but following repairs in 2012 it is now weathertight. It is hoped a nearby development will act as a catalyst for action

St Lawrence's Church, High Street, Brentford - slow decay

Urgent repairs to the former church and its 15th century tower were carried out but the building has since been neglected. However, there are plans for a wider waterside development, incorporating the building

This grade II-listed former country house has been affected by dry rot and vandalism but it is set to get a new lease of life as a luxury hotel after planning permission was granted at the beginning of the year
