THREE people were arrested during raids targeting suspected rogue landlords.

Officers from Hillingdon Council and Home Office Immigration Enforcement – formerly the UK Border Agency – visited an address in Warley Road, Hayes, and in New Road, Harlington, on Tuesday last week.

The raids followed an extensive investigation into planning, housing and immigration regulation breaches, and all three homes visited were found to be in violation.

Two had unauthorised outbuildings, or ‘beds in sheds’, and the council says it will be pursuing legal action against the owners.

An Indian man, 28, and a 26-year-old Pakistani man, who had overstayed their visas, were arrested, as was a 33-year-old Algerian man who had entered the UK illegally.

The three suspects are now in immigration detention and face deportation.

Councillor Keith Burrows, cabinet member for planning, said: “This raid sends a clear message that we are determined to crackdown on unscrupulous landlords who rent out illegal and unsafe accommodation.”
