AN ARMED robber who took part in a bungled raid at a bookmakers in Ickenham has been jailed for 10 years.

Yannis Young, 24, of Minet Avenue, Harlesden, was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court today (Monday)

He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to commit indictable offences on 4 February.

Between 29th September 2007 and 29th September 2009 Yannis Young, who was unemployed at the time, targeted bookmakers across north-west London.

He threatened staff with a handgun which was at times concealed within a bag or a sock. Young made attempts to conceal his identity by wearing a hood over his head and a bandana across his face.

Over the 24-month period, Young stole approximately £11,500 in cash.

Yannis Young was arrested on 30 September for conspiracy to rob between 2007 and 2009 and charged on 1 October.

He carried out an attempted armed robbery at Corals in Swakeleys Road, Ickenham at 6.45pm on September 21 last year.

On this occasion he did not not manage to escape with any cash.

An imitation firearm was discovered at the time of his arrest.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
