I REALLY must correct the letter from Lady Hale (Cloud of suspicion heads for the river, Informer letters, February 12) where she states that 'anyone who wishes to consult the archival sources can see for themselves that the majority of the site was designated for public open space'.

I have consulted the archives and can assure her that the site was largely acquired for road widening and as a site for civic offices.

Around six per cent of the cost was attributed to public open space. I am happy, publicly, to invite her to come to York House to have a look at our archive. The council has a vision for this crucial site. The river centre will be a wonderful asset for Twickenham and beyond providing all sorts of information about the river, which runs through the borough.
