A Harrow lawyer has won an award for her achievements in the business world.
Ritu Sethi, of Hatch End, won the business award at the First Women Achievement Awards on June 11.
The owner of The Sethi Partnership Solicitors, in Meadow Way, Ruislip, beat off competition from four other women to win the accolade in front of 500 people at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, in London.
Mrs Sethi said: "It was totally unexpected. I was the last name on the list for the award so it was nerve-wracking waiting. It was great to have all my hard work recognised after 14 years."
After qualifying in Bristol in 1988, Mrs Sethi set up her own practice in 1994 with just one secretary.
She said: "When I started there were not many women in the legal profession and I was juggling caring for my young son.
"Not many people wanted to deal with a business run by a woman and I was relatively young as well."
Despite these struggles the firm now employs more than 30 people and deals with everything from criminal law to employment and childcare.
As well as being a lawyer, the mother-of-two is also a television presenter, fitness instructor and a charity fundraiser.
It is hard to see how she fits it all in, but the 44-year-old manages.
She said: "I'm not a fitness instructor at the moment as I don't have the time, but I enjoy TV presenting the most.
"I also took part in Walk the Walk, a 13-mile walk to raise money for Breast Cancer research."
Mrs Sethi is a regular on the Asian Network, where she used to present a television show called Chai with Ritu, a topical chat show featuring guests each week. She also hosted the Under One Sky event at Kodak Sports Ground, Harrow View in 2007.
The businesswoman is no stranger to awards as the firm was the first legal practice to receive the Investors in People and Lexcel, the Law Society's practice management quality standard.
She said: "I just want to be an inspiration to other women who have been through what I have been through.
"I want to show it can be done, no matter how big the dream, you can break through and work out a way."
The First Woman Achievement Awards, which are in their fourth year, were run in conjunction with Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets and CBI and Real Business Magazine.
