A doctor’s surgery which underwent a major transformation has officially reopened.
The Church Road Surgery, which serves the people of Cowley Village, Uxbridge , had its grand unveiling on Thursday (Jan 21), with guests including the Mayor of Hillingdon.
It has been given a major face-lift by its new principal GP, Dr Sashi Shashikanth. He took over the practice following the retirement of long-serving Dr Stephen Mort in October last year and ploughed his own money into transforming the surgery. As well as a fresh lick of paint, it has also new flooring and a major revamp of the patient waiting area.
The surgery, which was founded in 1954, has around 2,000 people on its register. For the past 31 years it has been run by Dr Mort, before it passed on to Dr Shashikanth last year.
He said the new look surgery is the latest in a line of improvements at the surgery. These include a new surgery website with patients now able to email with queries. He will be assisted by two other GPs and have an experienced nursing team.
Dr Shashikanth, who has been the principal GP at West London Medical Centre in Hillingdon since 2005, said: “I took over the practice in October 2014 and am committed to improve services to the residents of Cowley village.”
During the ceremony mayor Catherine Dann unveiled a plaque and snipped the ribbon to officially open the new-look practice. It had remained open throughout the refurbishment.
