A GROUP of people who grew up in Shepherd’s Bush in the 1960s have reconnected on Facebook and will meet for a reunion lunch at one of their old haunts, a restaurant which is facing closure.

Cooke’s Pie and Mash shop in Goldhawk Road is one of 13 businesses in the area, which are facing compulsory purchase orders on their premises when Hammersmith and Fulham Council redevelop Shepherd’s Bush Market.

Linda Ahearne, formerly Stewart, heard of the plight of the cafe and set up a Facebook page calling on other former neighbours in the White City estate and the surrounding area to join her for a traditional lunch at noon tomorrow (Saturday).

The response has been fantastic, she says, with more than 20 people set to attend the lunch.

"It might not be around for much longer so I thought it would be great to go there one more time and catch up with old friends,” she said. "We used to go there all the time, it was our Saturday meeting place and it's a fantastic institution. It would be terrible to see it go."

Anyone is welcome to join Mrs Ahearne and her friends for the reunion lunch.
