A RAYNERS Lane restaurateur was forced to fork out more than £2,000 last week after he was caught dumping the eatery's waste in neighbours' bins.

Hendon Magistrates Court heard how Umesh Jivraj, owner of Ruby M restaurant in Alexandra Avenue, had cancelled the businesses waste collection contract to save money before dumping it in nearby bins.

The 53-year-old of Woodberry Avenue, North Harrow, had admitted the offences when questioned by the council's Environcrime officers but a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to show up to three previous court hearings.

Appearing before Hendon Magistrates on Monday last week (January 16) he pleaded guilty to the offence and was hit with a fine and costs of £2,015.

Speaking after the case councillor Phillip O’Dell, portfolio holder for environment and community safety on Harrow Council, said: “These offences were premeditated and took place over a considerable period of time.

“It’s a tough time for businesses so it’s particularly disappointing that this individual was dumping the costs of his waste disposal on his neighbours at a time they could least afford it.

“This case was about the council standing up for residents and businesses in Rayners Lane, by bringing the offender before the courts.”
