FROM next week all residents, including those who live in flats and on red routes, will be able to recycle their household waste from home.

People whose homes are above shops, in properties on red routes or in small blocks of flats are having clear sacks delivered to them to fill with mixed recyclables, which will be collected.

Those who live in blocks of 25 or more flats who do not already have them will be able to use large communal bins, which are being rolled out from Monday. Every household will be given a reuseable bag to make it easier to carry waste to the new bins.

The two schemes will enable about 12,500 extra people to recycle.

Ealing Council is making a one-off investment of £256,000 to set up the extended service and will continue to spend £327,000 every year to run the collections. It is expected that more than 1,500 tonnes of rubbish will be saved from going to landfill each year.
