A pair of workmen who raped a prostitute at the house they were developing have been sent to prison after a jury found them guilty of the brutal attack.

Arvinder Singh, 22, of Oakwood Road, Southall, was jailed for eight years and Karnail Singh, 36, of no fixed address, was sentenced to seven years. Both will be deported from the UK after serving half of their sentence.

The men, both originally from India and not related, had travelled from Southall to work on the electrics at the property in Swindon's red light district.

But on the evening of Wednesday, February 6 they picked up a prostitute from the street, lured here inside and attacked her.

After dragging her up the stairs Arvinder pulled out a clump of her hair while Karnail address slammed a sash window shut on her fingers as she tried to get away.

Both men then raped the terrified woman, first forcing her to perform oral sex on them and then having intercourse.

Police found a condom on a flat roof at the back to the house which contained Karnail's semen and the victim's DNA.

Both men initially denied having sex with the victim but then claimed in court that she had consented to sex.

Passing sentence at Swindon Crown Court, Judge William Hart said: "You both believed that your victim being a prostitute meant either that she would not complain about what happened to her, or that if she did complain that she might not be believed or might not have the courage to see the case through to trial.

"But she has had the courage and the jury has believed her and rightly so.

"There are in my judgement aggravating features in this case of rape. There were two of you involved in the attack upon her. You Arvinder Singh ejaculated inside her, you Karnail Singh used a condom.

"She was prevented from leaving and she was effectively imprisoned in that house for about twenty minutes.

"She was injured by the way that you handled her, deliberately by you Arvinder Singh and accidentally but painfully by you Karnail Singh."

Arvinder had been in the country for about five years and Karnail for just six weeks when the attack took place.
