I AM a parent of two Elthorne Park School students. On reading the article in the school newsletter (also featured in the Gazette last week), I wrote to the school to ask them publicly to clarify their attitude to the proposed skatepark.

I was concerned that the newsletter article gave the impression that the school was generally negative towards the idea of providing such a facility for local skaters, many of whom are Elthorne students.

The reply I received from the head-teacher concludes: "I would like to repeat that the school does support the idea of a skate park in the borough though not in the location proposed."

I further understand that the proposal includes a raised bank that will screen the skate park from view from school buildings, thereby removing the main substance of the school's reported objections to the location.

I hope that the council will now consider the matter objectively based on the large majority of public support its consultation has generated.
