A MAN has died close to Godfrey Way in Hanworth after reportedly being hit by a train.

A witness said the incident happened close to the Royal Mail Jubilee sorting offices, on the line between Feltham and Hounslow, and is causing disruption on the railway routes via Feltham.

Heavy delays are occuring on South West Trains between London Waterloo and Windsor, following the incident which happened at around 3.30pm, today.

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: "Trains between London Waterloo and Windsor are currently being disrupted following an incident in which a person was hit by a train near Feltham station. Our immediate thoughts are for the family of the person involved.

"Due to the ongoing investigation, our services may be delayed and passengers are advised that some trains may be subject to short notice cancellations. We would like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience this will cause. We are working hard to return services to normal as quickly as possible."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 3.20pm to reports if a person hit by a train near Feltham Railway station. We sent a duty station officer and single responder in a car, one ambulance crew, our hazard area response team and London's Air Ambulance to the scene. Sadly a male was pronounced dead at the scene."

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "BTP and Metropolitan Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 3.19pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 4.25pm.
