I READ the many letters in the Gazette calling for the new Hillingdon Hospital to be built on the Uxbridge RAF site.

This sounds a good idea, particularly as it would be much nearer to Uxbridge Tube station.

The car parks at Hillingdon hospital are so full - causing patients to be late for and even miss hospital appointments.

But there's nothing patients can do as the present Hillingdon Hospital is not near a station, so it gives them little choice but to come by car.

The hospital could also be built to new environmental standards.

Inadequate ventilation and solvents contribute to poor air quality in many hospitals, causing longer patient recovery times and more sick days for staff.

Some US states are now building eco-friendly hospitals that reduce harmful emissions, conserve energy and make use of natural light.

PVC and other plastic materials are often being replaced by natural materials in hospitals, which reduces allergies and breathing problems.

This is a great opportunity for an energy-saving, healthy and advanced hospital nearer to public transport. The authorities should grasp this.
