THOUSANDS of family members and friends of RAF Northolt turned out for this year's Families Open Day at the base.

More than 6,000 people attended the annual event on Saturday held at the base in West End Road, Ruislip.

For the first time ever a limited number of tickets also went on sale to the public in aid of the event and the station's charities.

Attractions on the day included static aircraft from around the world, fairground displays and helicopter rides.

Squadron Leader Richard Willis, said: "Despite the weather it was successful and everyone seemed to have a great time and that was the aim.

"It gives families and friends the chance to look around the base."
