A young person from Feltham has been honoured with an apprentice award presented by Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

Ellis Nimmo, a level 3 apprentice with Mercedes, received the advanced apprentice award, sponsored by Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce, at the annual Uxbridge College awards night.

The 20-year-old, who has become a highly valued member of the team at work, where his employer says he is expected to become a great technician, and continues to produce distinction level course work at Uxbridge College, was one of many young achievers celebrated on September 17, at The Beck Theatre in Hayes.

Principal of Uxbridge College, Laraine Smith OBE, said: “The awards ceremony is particularly special as it marks the start of Uxbridge College’s Golden Anniversary year, and I would like to congratulate all our winners.

"Their stories are humbling and inspiring and remind us all about what can be achieved through education."

Special guest on the night loved for his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing, Mr Mills, talked about his life including charting his earliest experiences of pretending to DJ in his bedroom at the age of eight, sending out unsuccessful demo tapes and working the graveyard slot on local radio before landing his job at Radio 1.

He also presented the awards and after met with the award-winning students.
