TEENAGERS from an Ickenham school will get to meet Olympic golden girl Jessica Ennis-Hill later this month.

Twenty pupils from Vyners School will spend the day with Jessica on March 27 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where she trains and lives.

The school is one of only 15 chosen from thousands which entered a competition by Sky Sports Living for Sport, a free secondary schools initiative delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust which uses sports skills to help build young people’s confidence.

They will take part in activities with other high profile "Athlete Mentors", including Olympians and Paralympians, and championship-winning sports people.

Sam Kendall, Head of PE at the Warren Road school, said: "Our pupils were so excited to hear they are heading to Sheffield... It really is a golden ticket.

"I’m sure they are going to be inspired by Jessica Ennis-Hill and all the amazing athletes they meet there. We know very well at this school the way sport can help boost confidence and change lives for so many young people - and so it’s a wonderful opportunity. We can’t wait for the big day."

Ennis-Hill won gold in the women's heptathlon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and is a former European and world heptathlon champion. She will not be competing in this year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow because she is pregnant.

Jessica Ennis-Hill, 28, said: "Inspiring the next generation and giving them the opportunity to build skills, experience and self-belief through sport is really important to me.

"When I was young, I got the chance to do something I loved and what I’ve learnt through sport helps me in life. It is going to be a special day and I’m very proud to be hosting it in my home town."
