HOUNSLOW'S love-hate relationship with Heathrow is the subject of a poem specially commissioned for the borough.

The ode to the airport celebrates the Teletubby-style huts built to shelter schoolchildren from the din of passing planes.

It was written for the London Lines festival on London's South Bank at the weekend just gone, which boasted poetry and artworks celebrating all 33 London boroughs.

The adobe huts were designed as a refuge from aircraft noise for pupils at Hounslow Heath Infant & Nursery School. Headteacher Kathryn Harper-Quinn claimed earlier this year they helped significantly improve youngsters' concentration.

The poem was penned by Francesca Beard, who grew up in Penang, Malaysia, but spent time in Hounslow as a child.

Pupils at Hounslow Heath worked with artist Jenny Camilleri to paint the verses onto colourfully decorated adobe play huts outside the Southbank Centre's Hayward Gallery.

The Aeroplane and the Adobe Home

One day, an Aeroplane fell in love with an Adobe Home.

Come with me, be my friend,

I am going where it’s warm.

Stay with me, be my friend,

I need to look after the children.

You are so smooth, I want to lick you,

I love you, I’ll never leave you.

Where are you going?

What are you thinking?

Where have you come from?

What are you dreaming?

I come from fields of ice,

Hot bright trees,

Candy clouds,

Sandy seas.

I’m going to India, to Goa, to Pakistan,

To Liverpool, Heathrow, Russia, Vietnam,

I’m going to Sri Lanka, Romania, Turkey, Birmingham,

To Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Lebanon.

I am made of milk and cream.

I am a pearl moon, dreaming of the sea.

I dream of dolphins, moving through the waves,

I see mermaids, sword fish, lonely whales.

I see stars, floating in the sky,

Makes me wish to see the starfish fly.

I am your Aeroplane Wish, your Magnificent Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I am your Icecream Vanilla Cone, Milk Cave, Dog Bone, Moon Bridge, Seal Dome, Sad Sock, Strawberry Spider, Tulip Lolly, Alien Flower.

Come with me, be my friend,

I am going where it’s warm.

Stay with me, be my friend,

I need to look after the children.
