A POSTMAN from Harlesden died after being assaulted outside a pub in Putney.

Stephen Andrews, 46, lived in Old Oak Lane, Harlesden and died on Sunday December 9.

Police were called just after midnight on Sunday to a fight near the Duke's Head pub in Lower Richmond Road, Putney.

Mr Andrews was a New Zealander and lead singer in punk band Vas Deferens, which was a big part of the punk scene in Wellington.

Tributes have been left on social network sites and Gareth Smith posted: "It is sad news. He affected people in such a fun and positive way, always great to be on a stage with, such an amazing performer, talented front man. RIP."

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the scene and Mr Andrews was taken to St George's Hospital suffering serious head injuries.

He was pronounced dead shortly before 6pm on Sunday 9 December.

A post-mortem examination took place on Monday 10 December at St George's Hospital and the cause of death was given as severe head injury.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating and an incident room has opened at Hendon under Detective Chief Inspector Matt Bonner.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday 11 December on suspicion of murder after attending Exeter police station.

He has been bailed to return to a north London police station in late February 2013 pending further enquiries.

DCI Bonner said: "We are still appealing for anyone who was in or around the area of the Duke's Head pub in Lower Richmond Road after midnight who may have seen or heard anything to call our incident room or Crimestoppers."
