A BRENTFORD pub where a mass brawl last month left a man with a fractured skull has been allowed to remain open following a police review.

The Royal Oak, in New Road, faced closure after police claimed the fight was the latest in a series of disturbances there, including frequent problems with football hooligans.

However, members of Hounslow Council's licensing panel last Thursday (May 19) voted to allow landlady Nicky McLean to keep her licence - albeit with a number of conditions attached.

The pub, on the corner of Brentford FC's Griffin Park stadium, must now use plastic glasses and employ door supervisors on match days. Other conditions include the introduction of a CCTV system and a drugs amnesty bin.

Ms McLean claimed a police report produced ahead of the review was the first she had heard of problems with hooligans at the pub. She said she has since asked for a list of potential troublemakers.

Councillor Brad Fisher, of the council's licensing panel, said: "We have requested a little more communication between police and the landlady so she knows who to look out for and possibly refuse to serve."
