STUDENTS are busy celebrating after their hard work and dedication paid off as they secure the next step of their future.

After all the nerves of A Level results, relief and smiles were the order of the day at Whitmore High School, in Porlock Avenue, West Harrow as Zakeria Elmi, Sadia Batool Sajjad, Zena Al-Attar and Dennis Xavier achieved first class results.

Zakeria, who has attended the school for six years, received a brilliant A* in maths, and A's in both biology and chemistry. He told the Observer: "I look forward to focusing on my future medical career.  My emotions were extremely mixed leading up to today. On one hand, I felt excited to finally get my grades, but on the other hand I was extremely nervous.”

He will now go on to St Georges' University in London to study medicine.

Sadia will be heading off to Brunel University after getting an A* in business studies, an A in English literature and an A in history, and she cannot wait to get started.

"I’m looking forward to a new experience," she said, "taking the next steps in life and trying something new.

"I felt really nervous about getting my results today - these grades would decide where I was going to university and so I really wanted to do well.”

Zena received all A's in biology, chemistry, geography and mathematics, and is off to study natural sciences at University College London (UCL).

She said: “I'm really looking forward to starting at UCL and I'm happy that all my hard work has paid off.  In the run up to my results, I was absolutely terrified. I logged on to UCAS more times than I can count, I even checked out the clearing courses. I'm still in shock but I'm so relieved.”

Finally Dennis achieved a fantastic A* in both maths and further maths, along an A in physics.

He said: “I’m off to study theoretical physics at Manchester University. The teachers at the school were very supportive, they gave up a lot of their free time helping me find the best combination of modules.”

Headteacher Sue Hammond added: “I am very proud of all our 6th form students. They have contributed a lot to life at Whitmore, achieved top grades and are going on to some great courses.

"It’s a tough world for young people at the moment but they have thought carefully about the next step in their lives, so I’m sure they will be very successful.”
