A laboratory costing £30,000 has opened at a London primary school in a bid to reverse the shortage of children studying science.
The Discovery Laboratory was opened at Millbank Academy in Erasmus Street, SW1, on December 4 by Dr Becky Parker. The date was intended to coincide with a particle app designed by Dr Parker and sixth-formers at her Simon Langton Grammar School in Canterbury going live on a NASA satellite, TechDemoSat 1.
The science laboratory in the academy will be sponsored by Future Academies and aims to get youngsters interested in science and engineers, particularly girls.
With a full-time science teacher, Millbank pupils have been studying biology in the first term and will study chemistry next term. The laboratory was built during the summer break.
