A disabled patient has praised her support worker's dedication to duty and efforts to help her find her real mother.

Bernice Walters of the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, Fulham Road, was nominated for our Pride in Our People awards by former naval officer Anna Lancaster. The Foundation provides independent living and care services for disabled and vulnerable ex-service personnel.

Miss Lancaster, 50, was adopted at 18 months old and is currently working with Bernice to track down her biological mother. She describes Bernice as: "one in a million" and that she is liked by "all residents, even those she doesn't work with. She goes out of her way to help you and really listens and understands without being condescending.

"She is an extremely busy lady with exceptional qualities for caring, understanding, building you up and supporting you."

Bernice, who has looked after Anna for a year, said: "This is really sweet of her. We get on very well; we don't always agree but we agree to disagree!

"We have been working hard with Anna's sister to find their biological mother; she may not still be alive but we are hoping that there are some relatives out there who might come forward."

Asked why the Foundation seems to be so popular with its residents, Bernice said: "We provide a 24/7 face-to-face service which gives them resources to which they always have access if they need help. Plus, it's really lovely here in Chelsea - which helps!"
