A woman who has devoted her life to caring for her sick parents has been nominated by her sister for the Ealing Gazetee's Pride in our People awards.

Christine Walasik 45, of Homefarm Road, Hanwell cared for her mum, Mary until she died from lung cancer five years ago and now devotes her time to her father, Stanley,81, who is wheelchair-bound and recently had his legs amputated.

She was put forward by her sister Mary Fyffe 47, of Friendship Walk, Northolt who said:"Christine is absolutely amazing. She cared for our mother until the end and now devotes her life to dad who lives with her. I have never heard her complain. She deserves a medal."

She said their father was paralysed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair in 2004. Last year medical problems lead to the amputation. She said:"Christine does everything for him. She is a full-time carer and only goes out to shop. She never thinks about herself."

Mary said:"I am very pleased to be nominated, but a bit shocked. I just get on with it. I would never put dad in a home and say I couldn't cope. He can't do much and it does get him down a bit and sometimes I lose patience but we get on really well. You just do what's needed."
