A RETIRED nurse who spent her life looking after people has continued to share her compassion by running a bed and breakfast for homeless people.

Biba Bajwa, 70, was nominated in our Business category by her daughter Rupi Sanghera, for her endless goodwill.

The grandmother of five retired from nursing two years ago. She has also managed the GB Hotel in Eccleston Road, West Ealing, with her husband for the last 10 years and has no intention of stopping now.

The couple have turned two large family homes into a seven-bedroom haven for up to 15 people who are waiting to find permanent accommodation with the help of Ealing Council.

Rupi said: “She’s very selfless. It’s more than just a business, she cares about the people and goes the extra mile. She is very popular with the residents and makes sure they are comfortable, and that’s her priority.”

Biba, who worked at Hammersmith Hospital for 38 years, said there is huge demand for housing at the moment.

“I give them breakfast in the morning,” she said. “Some work part time and some don’t have anywhere to go and are on job seeker’s allowance.

“I love what I do and I’m used to helping people. At the moment, we have one lady who is on a hospital bed and a carer comes and feeds her and I supervise that.

“One lady has been here six months waiting to find private accommodation.”
