YOUNGSTERS had a chance to try out new play equipment at Wesley Playing Fields when Olympic boxing gold medallist James DeGale officially opened it on Sunday.

The £60,000 play area, off North Acton Lane, was funded by Ealing Council, who provided £20,000, and the Big Lottery Fund.

It is one of 20 projects that have been paid for under a £790,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to improve play areas across the borough.

Council Leader, councillor Jason Stacey, said: "A lot of hard work has gone into the new play area and I am so pleased to be here to see the local community enjoying it.

"It is so important to provide facilities that encourage young people to be active and social. We have doubled the size of the original play area to include a new adventure trail, climbing wall, and a youth shelter that provides a separate area for teenagers to enjoy."
