A DEDICATED landlady and cherished member of the community has died from cancer.

Jill Tindall aged 63, died on Friday, January 10 at St Luke's Hospice in Kenton Road, Kenton.

She was the land lady of the popular pub in Pinner's High Street, The Queen's Head for over 20 years and was well known in the community.

Cynthia Wells from the Pinner Association said: "I couldn't praise Jill too highly. I worked closely with her on all the street parties in the High Street. Without her I can't imagine how we could have made them happen.

"It is difficult to explain all that Jill and her late husband, James, have done for our community. They arrived nearly 20 years ago just before a Panto Evening and threw themselves into the spirit of the event immediately, dressing up in style.

"Thank you, Jill, for helping to enhance our sense of community."

Jill retired in August last year due to ill health, on her departure she told the Observer: “Of course I am sad to go, but I had to because of my health. I am going to go and live on a barge now in Rickmansworth and retire.

“It’s been a great run and I have loved working there. I have managed 14 different pubs in my lifetime, so it’s an end of an era.”

During her time at The Queen's Head, the pub won awards, including the Harrow Pub of the Year award for the quality of the real ale, service and the welcome given to customers.

In May last year, the pub won a place in Ye Old Good Inn Guide-a handbook to the nation's most historic watering holes.

Jill had no children and her husband, James died in July 2006.
