FURNITURE maker Paris Oxley is looking for another ‘pop-up shop’ now her six-month stay in a former milkshake bar has ended.

Ms Oxley set up The Shed at 93 Victoria Road, Ruislip Manor in December, after winning a Hillingdon Council competition for a short-term lease of the one-time Shakes premises.

She sells handmade, recycled and re-upholstered furniture, produced in her workshop at the back of the shop, but her lease finishes on Saturday.

“It’s been really, really great,” said Ms Oxley, of Hayes. “Having my work viewed and people just coming in and seeing what I do and asking questions, it’s been really great for the business.”

Ms Oxley originally signed a three-month lease at a reduced rent after winning a competition run in conjunction with regeneration company Meanwhile Space. She stayed for a further three months, but cannot afford rents at the market rate.

“I’m looking for another pop-up shop,” she said. “The problem is that it takes at least a year before a shop becomes established in a high street and just to be starting to become established and to have to leave is really hard.

“I would really like to thank all of the shopkeepers and customers of Ruislip Manor for all of their donations of material and support for the shop. They have made me feel so very welcome.”

After Saturday, Ms Oxley will be selling her furniture via her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AtTheShed.
