I READ a while ago about polyclinics replacing GP surgeries and now I see in the Chronicle (May 1) that it is going to happen here.
I think it will be terrible. People know their GPs and their GPs know them. I would hate to lose mine as he has been so helpful to me with my ongoing health problems.
Big places like those mentioned are not better and this will greatly affect disabled people, elderly people and, to be honest, most people.
Who wants a cold, clinical place? When patients are surveyed, they usually say they get a good service from their doctor. I read that this year's survey, although not yet out, is saying people are even more satisfied with their GP service, and like to see their own GP.
Surely people who want these polyclinics should read these surveys and know what people want, or are they shutting their eyes? I agree we, the patients, must support our services and the GPs, or our rights will be gone to say what we want.
