At a meeting tomorrow (Friday, September 12) members of the Uxbridge and South Ruislip Conservative Association will have to make their choice on who will be their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate at the next general election.

Hillingdon Council Leader Ray Puddifoot has already said London Mayor Boris Johnson will not be a shoo-in for the title, and it certainly did not stop others applying to go up against him for the spot.

A Guardian poll – from pollster Lord Ashcroft’s organisation and published on Saturday, August 16 – showed that  if the Mayor of London were to stand  in the seat vacated by Sir John Randall, fully 52 per cent of voters in the constituency would vote for him.

So when the shortlist of candidates fighting the Uxbridge and South Ruislip Conservative nomination battle was announced, we asked getwestlondon readers to vote on who they thought best deserved to be the candidate.

And the results show Mr Johnson is not necessarily the most popular choice among our readers.

Most of the votes have gone to Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead councillor Simon Dudley, followed by Hillingdon councillor David Simmonds.

London Mayor Boris Johnson and Barrister Suella Fernandes are in joint third position.

Our poll is by no means conclusive, and if you think differently, add your vote.
