I have just read the article The Commander's Column concerning crime in the borough [Gazette, February 18].

It made me see red, as I have been the victim of crime and the police just dragged their heels.

In 2008 I had an attempted burglary, someone tried forcing my front door during broad daylight, and after taking fingerprints police made no headway, which is fair enough as they did not have a lot of evidence.

But about last July, someone broke into the house through the back doors and stole a number of items.

They were scared off by my neighbours, for which I am very grateful to them for the actions they took.

The police again took fingerprints and we even named people we thought were involved, but within a month of the crime, and only two letters from Victim Support, the police just seemed to drop the investigation.

Each time I phoned for an update they said the detective was out or off duty, and I was never contacted to this day, just to even say there was no progress.

And on February 15 this year,at 1am, we had a gang of yobs attacking a house near me.

I phoned the police and told them they had weapons and gave them all my details, but, guess what? - they never turned up.

Anything could have happened, and where were the police?

And then there they are, in your paper, saying: "If you live a life of crime,we will catch you and lock you up - with the public's help."

Well, they had my help but where were they that Sunday morning?
