A NEW police station will open at a bus terminal in the centre of Uxbridge, if a planning application is approved.

Hillingdon Police, in partnership with the Met, have applied to use the ground floor of the Travelodge, in Baker's Road, Uxbridge, as a Safer Neighbourhoods base.

It is proposed that the station would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and up to 18 staff would take part in the day to day running of it.

The police believe the unique location of the site makes it ideal, giving them greater visibility and will go some way to reassuring those who live, work, and travel through the area.

Chief Inspector Maurice Hartnett, said: "Safer Neighbourhood bases provide a more flexible approach for the officers and public, they can open as a contact point, police surgery or meeting room depending on the needs of the local community.

"The application has been made for the change of use and I would not like to pre-empt the decision as it needs to be considered in line with any other application that the council receives."
