NINE people were arrested in a joint police and council operation targeting uninsured drivers and criminal use of the roads.

Forty vehicles were stopped and six were seized in Scrubs Lane when their drivers were found to be driving without insurance, while there were nine arrests for money laundering, theft, possession of a blade, drugs possession and breaching bail conditions.

As well as catching those criminals, the operation was intended to cut down illegally dumping rubbish and fly-tipping. The council issued 18 notices for not transporting waste legally, one for not proving a duty of care in disposing controlled waste that was being transported and one £300 fixed penalty notice for transporting waste without authority.

Councillor Greg Smith, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “Operation Cubo was a great success and has once more proved how important these types of on-the-spot operations are in keeping our streets and borough safe. We will continue to do everything we can to help the police and to keep cracking down on crime in H&F.”
