A man who cut his own neck and wrists then ran to the edge of a bridge was saved by police officers yesterday.

On-duty officers from Hammersmith and Fulham were patrolling near Wandsworth Bridge, Fulham , at 1.20am when a man told them he had just seen another man cutting his wrists.

They then found the 29-year-old who ran off along Trinity Road on the Wandsworth side of the bridge and ran to the edge of another bridge crossing Windmill Road where he continued to injure himself with a razor blade.

The officers immediately restrained him and took the blade from him while giving him first aid for cuts to his neck and wrists.

He was taken to a central London hospital where his injuries were not found to be life threatening or changing.

A police spokesman said: “After his wounds were attended to he was taken to a second hospital and detained for treatment under the mental health act. No other person was injured during the incident.”
