POLICE in Harrow are objecting to a change in a Pinner pub's premises licence which they fear could lead to anti-social behaviour.
The Starling pub in Rickmansworth Road is applying to Harrow Council for permission to allow patrons to remain in the pub's outdoor terrace area after 11pm.
The landlords also want to allow minors to remain at the pub until 9pm and to allow smoking to continue outside the pub beyond 11pm. It will help them host karaoke nights in future.
But Harrow's licensing officer, Sergeant Carl Davis, said residents were unlikely to welcome the change if it was agreed by councillors.
He told the Observer: "The existing condition is to clear the area at 11pm, which stops punters disturbing local residents.
"I know some areas where the local residents are not that fussed but I believe the residents will be objecting to this.
"As police, we don't want to be called up there to deal with disorder because patrons are congregating outside."
Richie Kotecha, The Starling's manager, said he hadn't been made aware of the objections. He added: "We are looking to develop the entertainment offer at the pub."
