POLICE are to get new powers to clamp down on antisocial drinkers in Hounslow West.

A Controlled Drinking Zone (CDZ) covering the town centre and surrounding streets, including Beaversfield Park, was approved at Tuesday's (September 21) borough council meeting.

Street signs advertising the restrictions will be installed before the zone comes into effect from October 14.

Police will be able to confiscate alcohol from people within the zone and move them on if it is believed they are likely to cause trouble.

There are already a number of CDZs across the borough, with the areas covered including Hounslow and Feltham town centres and Lampton and Heston parks.
