THE Flying Squad is appealing for witnesses following a smash-and-grab robbery at a Southall jewellers.

Officers have released CCTV images of two suspects seen battering the window of Goldbox jewellers at 60 South Road with a hammer at 5pm on Monday (July 15).

Two men, wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, pulled out outside the shop in a black BMW 1 Series convertible.

One armed with a heavy club hammer attacked the front window and, after repeated attempts, succeeded in smashing it. His accomplice then reached through and grabbed a selection of gold necklace and earring sets worth around £2,000 from the display.

They then jumped back into the car, which had been double-parked on South Road while the robbery took place.

The vehicle fled north along South Road, across the junction of Broadway and then at speed up Lady Margaret Road. It is believed a third suspect was driving the car.

Detective Constable Johnny Baker, from the Flying Squad at Finchley, said: "This was an audacious well-planned raid in broad daylight on a busy street and we are need the public’s help to arrest those responsible.

"Were you there at the time? Did you see the getaway car double-parked - did you see its registration plate or the person waiting inside? If you have any information please come forward."
