POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a referee was viciously assaulted after a football match in Southall.
The 24-year-old man who was refereeing a match at the Greenwood Football Club in Durdans Park, Adrienne Avenue, sent off a player towards the end of the game.
As he was heading back to the changing room following the match on Saturday October 23, he was attacked from behind by the player he had just sent off.
The referee sustained a broken nose and blows to the eye causing severe bruising and was taken by ambulance to St Mary's hospital in Paddington.
Terence Clarke, secretary of Greenwood FC, said: "I didn't see the incident as I was taking the nets down after the match. But I did later see the referee lying on the floor with blood coming from his nose.
"This is a relatively low key club, we play at a London Commercial league three level with guys who turn up each week paying £5 to play. The player was fined and will not be coming back to the club following the assault."
The suspect is described as a white man, aged 30, 5ft 8ins tall with short brown hair.
