A HANDSHAKE between Prime Minister David Cameron and principal Ed Vainker of Reach Academy marked the successful opening of Feltham's newest school.

Mr Cameron praised the students, parents and staff at the Feltham free school for their hard work since opening this year during Mr Vainker's visit to a reception at 10 Downing Street last week.

Principal Vainker was delighted the school has been recognised. He said: “We have made a brilliant start to our first school year and pupils in Year 7 and Reception have already made a great deal of progress. Our survey results show that both pupils and parents are delighted with the school, and we have a strong foundation to build on.”

Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, added the school was "innovative and exciting, offering a great new choice to parents in Feltham."

The state-funded school educates children from the age of four to 18, and is temporarily based at Bridge House on Hanworth Road. In 2014 it will move to its permanent home at Fern House, on Hanworth Road.
