Here are some dates and times for your diary this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday , swarms of Santas will be dashing – and possibly prancing and dancing – through Northwood and then around Ruislip Lido. Two Santa Dashes are scheduled, on Saturday starting in Oaklands Gate, Northwood, at 11am in aid of Michael Sobell Hospice, and the following day at Ruislip Lido off Reservoir Road, also at 11am and in aid of the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals charity.
On Saturday night the Ruislip Lions Christmas Concert swings into action at 7.30pm in the Winston Churchill Hall, Pinn Way, Ruislip with The Hillingdon Youth Big Band followed by a performance from Ruislip’s Jam 2000 Dance Academy, The Family of Music Makers performing contemporary and traditional songs and Tom the Magician's amazing tricks. Hillingdon Musical Society will perform show tunes and the audience can join with traditional carol singing. Money raised from ticket sales will be split between the Lions' chosen charities.
Ruislip Police Station opens up to the public on Saturday with a festive fun day. Hillingdon Borough Commander, Steve Kershaw, will be stepping into fancy dress as Father Christmas, to give the bearded gift-giver - who is very busy at this time of year - a day to catch up on sorting presents. From 10am - 2pm, youngsters will be able to meet police horses and sniffer dogs. There will also be classic police cars on display, a gift for well behaved children in Santa's Grotto and those that are not so well behaved can experience children's custody in the cells and make their own warrant cards.
The skies above Ruislip Lido will light up on Sunday night for a firework display to celebrate the completion of improvement works at the beauty spot. Free fairground rides will be available on Willow Lawn in Reservoir Road from 3pm, with the display beginning at 5pm.
Santa may favour a sleigh but you can visit him by boat this weekend. The Hillingdon Narrowboat Associating is running trips to see Santa every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas. The one hour trips leave from the Coy Carp pub every 30 minutes between 12-4pm and cost £10 per child including a gift, or £5 adults and over 12s.
