THE residents in our part of Harrow, who joined thousands of others in signing a petition last year, have been appalled to learn of the appeal by Dandara against the decision of Harrow Council to refuse planning permission for a disproportionate and incongruous development on the site of 51 College Road.

The physical, environmental and infrastructure arguments against it are well known, and do not need repetition in this letter.

Leaders of the Labour Group on Harrow Council have written objecting in strong terms to this appeal, thus establishing cross-party agreement on the matter.

The Conservative candidate for Harrow West has also long campaigned on the issue, but we have not seen any public pronouncement from either of our Harrow MPs. It is the Labour government's policy that is being used to justify this kind of unsuitable development here.

It is thus their own electoral prospects which would be seriously harmed if Dandara was given leave to ruin our historic skyline forever. We therefore call on both MPs to proclaim their own opposition to the appeal and to state what they are doing as influential members of the Labour Party in Parliament to protect Harrow from such a serious misfortune.
