A CHURCH is planning to turn its barely used yard into an attractive and peaceful space combined with a children's play area.
Architects hope to create a memorial garden and children's play area outside St Mary's, in St Mary's Road, South Ealing.
The garden will be in the main part of the yard, north of Baillie's Walk, and the section for children will be to the south of the Polygon Centre. They will be linked by a new open space accessible from the church lounge.
About 55 people attended a meeting at the church last Monday to go through the ideas and raise questions.
It will involve the removal of diseased or dying trees, as well as dangerous or illegible memorials.
The church had commissioned reports from tree and ecological experts to explore the benefits to wildlife. The plans will now be drawn up in detail as part of a bid for grant funding.
Progress will be recorded at the church's website, www.stmarys ealing.org.uk. Anyone wishing to get involved can contact the Vicar of St Mary's, the Reverend Steve Paynter.
