TWO pigs are being used to clear land for a new children's centre in Isleworth.

The eight-week-old Oxford Sandy and Blacks - an endangered breed - have been brought in to help prepare the land for an outdoor play area at the East Isleworth Children's Centre site.

The centre, which will open in September as one of five new units being built across the borough, is in the grounds of Marlborough Primary School in London Road, Isleworth.

Children have named the pigs Bubble and Squeak. They will be on site for six weeks, after which they will be returned to landscape company Gavin Jones.

Laura Coady, acting deputy head at Marlborough, said: "Staff and even one of our governors have signed up for feeding duty at weekends and evenings and it's really brought the community together."
