THE Green in West Drayton was the setting for joyous May Day celebrations, with several hundred people joining in the fun.
Families flocked to the fair in Swan Road on Saturday afternoon and basked in the rays, as children enjoyed a petting zoo, fairground game stalls, parades, and morris dancing.
There was a constant stream of customers for the beer tent, and onlookers were treated to live music on the main stage, and dozens of stalls selling lots of bargain goodies.
The festivities were organised by the Yiewsley and West Drayton Town Centre Action Group, and such was its success, there have been calls to make it an annual event.
Sarika Sharma, 33, of Bellclose Road, West Drayton said: “It was a fantastic event and a great success with so many residents across the community coming together to celebrate.
“I never knew how much could be fitted on The Green – but it seemed like it was made for the occasion. And we were blessed with great weather too. The children loved it.
“It’s nice to see such a lovely event take place in our local area and feeling proud to live here.
“I think as residents we often feel that West Drayton is left out with more money being invested in the north of the borough, but the success of the May Fair clearly shows how much this community wants to get together.
“It was so nice to bump into people we knew.
“We definitely would like to see more events like this. It reminds us that there is a lovely community here.”
