Children in Ruislip took learning about history one step further - by becoming the characters they had been studying.

The pupils at Lady Bankes Junior School in Dawlish Drive, Ruislip Manor, dressed up in the type of outfits worn by people during the time periods they have been learning about this year.

Headteacher George Knox didn't miss out on the chance to dress up, joining the children in a parade around the school grounds - a tradition the school has kept up for the past 18 years.

Jill Cortis, staff lead teaching assistant, organised the day. She said: "Mr Knox encourages the children to participate in all aspects of the historical period they are studying as part of the curriculum.

"This year 335 children dressed up and took part in the parade and parents were invited to tour the school and see the outfits."

Year three pupils dressed as ancient Greeks, with year four taking on Romans. The Tudor period transformed year five pupils and those in year six became Victorian for the day.
