THE canine population of Fulham has been enjoying a little bit of doggy heaven over the past few years.

Since opening in July 2010, the wonderfully named pet grooming shop, Bishops Bark, has been causing pooches to wag their tails that little bit faster.

Adored by their customers, staff at the shop have forged strong relationships with their clients by giving them and their pets a fantastic experience, be it by using organic and healthy products on the dogs, delivering dog food to the customer’s houses or by encouraging them to leave pets in their care while they nip to the shops.

The brainchild of 40-year-old Fulham resident and dog owner Ryan Gottsche, the business has been welcomed with open arms and his customers have nominated him in the Entrepreneur category for the H&F Heroes Awards.

Mr Gottsche said: “I used to make a free dog magazine called London Dog Tails, which was distributed throughout the city. I’ve got dogs and I live in the area so I thought it would be a good idea to set up this business.

“Because I knew quite a lot of dog owners, everyone was quite excited about us opening. Our success has all come through word of mouth, we’ve got such lovely customers, who are more like friends now.”

Last year, Bishops Bark won best new business at the H&F Brilliant Business Awards, but Mr Gottsche has no plans to expand.

He said: “I like to do things well and if we had two shops, I’d have to find a replica of the staff. The staff we have here are amazing and to find a replica set of staff that good would be impossible.”
