A cyclist is riding to Paris to raise money for cancer victims - and one Perivale primary school is right behind him.

Alan Brown is in training for the gruelling 300 mile trip and has been buoyed by the efforts of pupils in Selborne Primary School, in Conway Cresent, Perivale.

The generous students raised £370 for the 23-year-old's endeavour by holding a non-school uniform day.

Mr Brown, of Wales, Farm Road, Acton, held a presentation during an assembly at the school. He asked them for help because he has two second cousins enrolled there.

He said: "I'm a bit nervous as I've never done anything like this before.

"I wanted to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care because two of my aunts died of cancer within month of each other in 2007. One was the nan of my second cousins who are at Selborne.

"It had a big effect on me and I wanted to do something to support the charity which helped us and my aunts.

"The school have been fantastic."

The ride to Paris is a four day event, beginning on June 3. Visit www.justgiving.com/alan-brown to sponsor him.
