A PENSIONER was left with a broken ankle and serious head injuries after a serious incident on a notorious road.

The unnamed victim, a woman aged 73, was knocked to the ground after crossing the busy Church Road, Northolt, at about 12.15pm on Tuesday (20).

She attempted to use a pedestrian crossing near the junction with Parkfield Road when she was involved in a collision with a private hire taxi, a Mercedes Vito.

The pensioner was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious head injuries and a broken ankle. She remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the taxi, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He was taken to a north west London police station and has since been bailed until late February pending further inquiries.

Officers from the Met's Alperton traffic garage are investigating the incident.
